About
“When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.”
― Anthony Douglas Williams.
There is a unique, subtle and elusive magic to animal painting. It is like becoming one with the creature and absorbing its essence. I see this art form as a privileged means of accessing animal wisdom. For me, each work represents a unique experience, a precious moment when I devote all my energy and sensitivity to capturing the beauty and soul of these fascinating subjects.
My Journey
An innate artistic sense
As a painter and illustrator, my inspiration is rooted in the magic of the mundane. Whether it’s in a piece of vintage fabric, the perfection of a freshly cut multi-layered cake, or the intricate structure within the eye of an insect – I see patterns everywhere.
As a child, I read and looked at nature. I liked the tiniest blade of grass and the details of a dandelion. I was fascinated by how sunlight created shadows. I believe these earlly observations is what gave me an intuitive understanding of form.
FROM Timid Start TO Wholehearted Commitment
Although since an early age I enjoyed cooking, crafts, and the very occasional drawing, it wasn’t until much later in my adult life that I even considered living out my passion on a daily basis! Today, my work reflects my long-standing fascination with patterns, textures and the natural wonders that surround us.
I began my artistic adventure with illustration a few years ago, while living in Ireland. During this purely self-taught phase, I discovered working with digital and various traditional materials. It was during these experimental sessions that I discovered watercolor, and I’ve never looked back!
FINE ART or illustratiON, WHAT TO CHOOSE?
For a longer time than I’d like to admit, I struggled with the idea that I had to limit myself to a single discipline and a single style to be considered a true professional. As someone who is passionate about both fine watercolor and illustration, and who simply loves to experiment with different ideas and materials, I felt torn between these worlds, believing that I had to choose only one path. However, I discovered that this self-imposed limitation only stifled my creativity.
About a year ago, I made a liberating decision: to embrace all aspects of my artistic voice. I realized that as a multifaceted individual, my true expression lies in the diversity of my work, and that ALL of this is my one path! Now I proudly create across mediums and styles, allowing my full range of passions to shine through.
Art, I’ve truly come to understand, is a never-ending journey of self-discovery. As I continue to create and experiment, I’m constantly clarifying my path and evolving as an artist. Stay tuned for the unfolding of this exciting artistic journey!
